Race Results - October 2017

Worcester Beacon Race

Saturday 14th October

Simon Pipe's Hook Norton vest caught the organisers' interest at this Malvern Hills classic, and at the prize giving, he learned why: a plea was made to recruit more runners because it's been squeezed by bigger events. As it was, 207 entrants climbed 1,300 feet over seven spectacular miles, mostly in manageable bursts, with some exciting descents. Simon got caught in a bottleneck at the start but worked through the field to finish 38th, and third-placed MV50 (out of 30). Verdict: easier than a fell race, friendly, and well worth the journey.

Oxford Half Marathon

Sunday 8th October

This year the Oxford half marathon changed hands again and was now being presented by Virgin Sport. It's an expensive one (it always has been) but they aimed to break attendence records this year and did so with over 8000 runners completing the race. We had a really good turnout from the Harriers too. Some were taking advantage of their free entries after providing marshalling and water station support last year. Some also volunteered (namely Cheri and Stuart Haden and Kelly Collins) offering helpdesk and bagge support pre-race and handing out goody bags and medals and sorting baggage collection aftterwards! Fantastic support from the Harriers for this flagship local race both racing and helping out! Well done everyone.

Alcester 10k

Sunday 8th October

Tony Stonehouse was the only Harrier to take on the Alcester 10k this year, but he did us proud finishing 3rd in age group. Great running Tony...

8th Hooky Alternative Race For Life

Sunday 1st October

Martyn Banham took on the Hook Norton alternative Race for Life this year. A roughly 3 mile run around Hook Norton for charity. Martyn raced the tortoise and came out on top as first finisher! Well done Martyn!! As Martyn said; "Technically, my stuffed toy tortoise was also fastest tortoise, but a) not having its own race number b) not being a real tortoise, it wasn't qualified to register in the results :P"

21:24  Martyn Banham (1st Finisher)

BHF Blenheim 10k/Half Marathon

Sunday 1st October

A gaggle of Harriers fancied a run around Blenheim estate. Most took on the 10k in this charity event, with Jules giving the half marathon a go. As everyone who has run around Blenheim will testify it's not a flat route! It's tough at the best of times, but the weather wasn't especially clement on Sunday morning and some slightly less than organised organisation made for an interesting event! The results below are as detailed on the results site, but we know there are a few errors! (you know who you are!)

0:44:59  Martyn Banham

0:56:40  Kelly Collins (we believe this is incorrect. Kelly thinks it should be around 1:06:00)

1:04:43  Kate Sutton

1:11:37  Jo Woodbridge

1:16:58  Sera Relton

Half Marathon

2:17:09  Julian relton

Lincoln Half Marathon

Sunday 1st October

David and Rachel headed north to Lincoln for this half marathon. It was a miserable wet and windy start (thank goodness for those bin bags) at the slightly exposed Lincoln show ground, and contrary to popular belief that Lincoln is flat, had a VERY nasty hill in it! But, it was a well organised and fun race with a mixture of beautiful scenery and the gorgeous historic Lincoln city thrown in. No PB's today (we'll blame the hill!), but a lovely race anyway (once the rain had stopped)!
