Race Results - September 2017

Draycote Water 20 Mile

Sunday 24th September

Bethan and Anwen took on this 20 mile race involving multiple laps (roughly 5 miles) around Draycote Water in Warwickshire. They also offer a 10k and a 10 mile at the same time, but as hardcore Harriers they couldn't consider anything other than the maximum distance!! (might also have something to do with marathon training!)

20 Miles

2:55:12  Anwen Greenaway

3:39:24  Bethan Greenaway

Woodstock 12

Saturday 23rd September

5 Harriers took on the tough "undulating" course of the Woodstock 12, a local race (and part of the club champs) put on by Woodstock Harriers. The race consists of three four mile laps around the beautiful Blenheim Palace grounds in Woodstock. It's not an easy one this, but well worth taking on.

2:07:00  David Bannister

A handfull of Harriers headed to Cirencester to take on this 10k. Some great results for them as well, with a congratulations going out to Selina for running her first ever 10k! Hopefully we'll see lots more races entered now! Well done all!

New Forest Marathon, Half Marathon and 10k

Sunday 10th September

The New Forest marathon festival is fast becoming a favourite with the Harriers. This year Claire, Rachel, Sera, Lisa, Julian, Simon and David headed down for the weekend with David taking on the marathon, Rachel, Lisa and Simon taking on the half marathon and Claire and Jules taking on the 10k. Sadly Sera's injury meant she had to sit this one out. Next year Sera!

A great time was had by all with David snaffling a painful PB in the marathon and Lisa smashing her PB in the half. Awesome stuff!

Stratford Big 10k

Sunday 10th September

Kate was the only Harrier to give the Stratford big 10k race a go this year. A local and very popular race this, and Kate had a flyer, managing to bag herself a PB! Well done Kate!

Half Marathon des Cotes de L'Orbe

Saturday 9th September

What an adventure! Anwen and Jess headed over to Switzerland for the weekend to take part in a half marathon with a difference. A really small and cosy race with just 168 runners and walkers, the idea was to complete either the 11km or half marathon routes, taking in several vinyard stops for wine and nibbles! I suspect Anwen and Jess showed them how it's done with more tasting and nibbling than anyone else! A fabulously friendly and fun race with enjoyment at it's heart! Well done ladies, flying the Harriers flag internationally!

Half Marathon

2:32:43  Anwen Greenaway

2:32:43  Jess Hickman-Woolcott

Exterminator Fell Race

Sunday 3rd September

Simon Pipe headed to the Peak District for the Exterminator, Totley AC's exhilarating 16-mile romp taking in purple-clad moors, spectacular crags and a wooded gorge. Total ascent about 4,200 feet. Simon lost a few minutes when he turned his foot dropping down from Stanage Edge, and walked around before deciding to continue - meaning he ran past the photographer twice. Running without a watch, he narrowly missed his target time of three hours:

Cotswold Ekiden

Sunday 3rd September

Cotswold Ekiden is a relay race through beautiful English countryside in the grounds of Sudeley Castle with each team member running 5.5km on an undulating multi-terrain course. The difference between an Ekiden and a conventional relay race is that a sash called a tasuki is used instead of a baton.

The harriers brought together three teams to take on the challenge (which included Cows! Never a good thing!) and despite the slightly inclement weather, had a great time!
