The Whitestar Ox Frolic - 22nd May 2021
Race report from Martyn: I took part in the White Star Ox Races. It was a joy to be back racing again. My wife, father in law and I took part in the Frolic as Solo entries - 12 hours to complete as many laps of a 1/4 marathon trail course as you wish. With my wife being the best part of 6 months pregnant she completed 2 laps alongside her father whilst I carried on to complete my target of my first ultra marathon distance, a non-stop 5 laps (officially 53.75km or 33.5 miles), in 6:20:37. The course was typically White Star - beautiful but with sharp drops and punishing climbs, which called for some strategic walking/hiking. Part of the route is on the boundary of a golf course, I think the golfers thought us all mad! The weather was very kind, with light rain quickly easing and even sunshine in the afternoon drying out the mud, making the last lap a bit more tolerable. It was great whiling away the hours with many friendly runners and marshals, something I'm very grateful to experience again.
The rankings showed a lady overall winning the Solo event, the only finisher to complete a staggering 10 laps (over 100km). I was 16th overall and 9th male according to the final results (link here: https://www.timingmonkey.co.uk/wsr-oxraces2021/)
