7:05:09 and 7:05:13 Marathon

From Lisa:
Friends don't let friends run Dopey alone!
Me and Graeme first saw this challenge a few years back when I said I'd always dreamt of going to Walt Disney World in Orlando to take part in the RunDisney marathon! Now in true friendship style, Graeme’s reply was "if we're going we're going to do it properly!" So there we had it, the Dopey Challenge it was and to our luck we got in for 2025! The Dopey Challenge is 48.6 miles over 4 consecutive days of running. Not only was this my biggest challenge yet, the fear of being swept by the balloon ladies in the marathon was a slight worry! However 28 weeks of training and a bit of faith, trust and pixie dust I started to believe it was possible! The races themselves were incredibly organised and I cannot fault RunDisney at all for the most incredible experience of my life despite the 2am wake up calls and freezing in the corrals before we started! What was even more amazing than running in the happiest place on earth, and seeing all the characters and singing along to Disney songs was running up main street in Magic Kingdom, in front of Cinderella’s castle and running through it, but most of all I got to do this with my favourite running pal! We are definitely Dopey and I cannot believe we actually did it! in true words of Disney...If you can dream it, you can do it! Appreciate y'all for taking the time to read this report!
From Graeme:
I heard of the Dopey challenge many years ago (when my daughters were small and in primary school – but I couldn’t go to Disney World without them – so here we are with them both in their 20s and what a wonderful trip we all had!!).
When Lisa told me a few years ago she wanted to run the Marathon at Disney World, I managed to talk her into the 48.6 Dopey challenge and we both got a place for 2025.
Florida is known as the sunshine state, even in winter it gets really hot – so I didn’t quite get my layers right for day 1 (the 5k) – a 3am bus for a 5am start (and a further 40 mins to cross the start line) – the 4 degrees really got into my bones!! I was so grateful to get started and warm up whilst running around Epcot. For day 2 (the 10k) I bought a beanie, wore 4 layers and tracksuit trousers – guess what it was EIGHTEEN DEGREES! It rained on Day 3, started cold on Day 4 and then got really hot towards the end of the marathon!
